Role of Coated P.C.C. in Cable application
Coated P.C.C is used in cable compounds for easy Flow & Dispersion characteristics allowing Higher Loading & Output besides Improved Surface Finish / Shade; Degree of Whiteness; Reduced Plate out; Good elongation at break, Better shore hardness, Increased Tensile strength & Good Weathering Resistance.
The special properties of surface treated P.C.C result from its lower density, Calcitic structure, small particle size, high degree of purity & brightness thus effecting good dispersibility in polymer matrix.
The basic distinction is given below;
| Properties | Advantages |
| Density | Yields lighter cable. |
| Brightness | Improves degree of whiteness & partial replacement of TiO2. |
| Particle size | Facilitates dispersion characteristics. |
| Coating | Reduces use of Internal Lubricants. |
| Flowpoint | Reduced viscosity. Maintains better flow in extruder & allows higher filler loading. |
A balanced use of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate & Ground Calcium Carbonate shall yield best processing / environmental characteristics besides Physicomechanical / Electrical values for processing quality cables.
